Why Bingo Today Isn’t Just For The Elderly

Why Bingo Today Isn't Just For The ElderlyWhen you think of Bingo, you probably imagine a  bunch of old men and women sitting at long tables at the American Legion  with cards strewn about. This is the image that most people think of.  While this may have been the case from the 1970s to the 1990s, but the  21st Century is a completely new time. Bingo is something that all ages  enjoy, not just the elderly. This article is going to go into further details as to why. Here are some tips to help you find the largest bingo resource on the internet.

Online Bingo

Bingo has become a game that many enjoy gambling on. Online Bingo sitesoffer games for children and young adults to enjoy. There are boards that one can gamble real money on, and there are sites that are purely for enjoyment. These sites have offered people the ability to play without ridicule.

Bingo Hall

Lacking a great customer support, Bingo Hall is still a top online Bingo site.  There are over 300 games and they are online. There is no downloading  necessary and the winners list is always posted. Most of the young that  will play on this site enjoy the ability to chat with other members. The  young adults can enjoy the bonuses and promotion prizes. They can start  with a free five dollars and then are able to put more money in their  account.

Children can play Bingo in school for education, and then as they get older, they are welcome to play online. There are online Bingo sites  that offer Bingo without the gambling. A person wishing to gamble can  log onto the pay sites and earn money through promotions. It is easy to  see why online sites create a love for Bingo that comes from everyone,  not just the elderly. Bingo has come so far in such a short period, and  it does not appear that the pendulum will swing back anytime soon.  American Legion Halls will still be full of elderly women and men who  enjoy playing Bingo, but all ages can enjoy the game thanks to online  gambling sites.

Online Bingo Still Going Strong in the UK

Online Bingo Still Going Strong in the UK

Online Bingo Still Going Strong in the UKAccording to a recent report by the BBC the online bingo industry is flourishing in the UK. One typical player in the report was Anita Heffernan, 50, who spends two to three hours playing online bingo on a typical evening. Heffernan says it’s not for the money and her biggest win was about £400. Since bingo is a random game of chance most players spend more than they win which is probably why there are no professional bingo players. Heffernan told the BBC “It is a hobby. I would much rather do that than spend a night out in town.”

The number of bingo sites in the UK has grown. In 2002 there were only about 20 online bingo sites but today there are between 350 to 400. Major operators in the UK include newspapers like the Sun and Daily Mail and bingo hall operators Gala and Mecca. For a game long associated with socializing and a night out online bingo would seem to be at odds with most players reasons for participating in live bingo games. Many of the converted cinemas that were converted to bingo halls in the 60′s are now showing their age but that doesn’t stop millions from visiting.

Since bingo is a game of chance no special skills are required except the ability to keep up with the game caller. In the UK 90 ball bingo is the dominant game at bingo halls but online bingo sites offer several game variants including traditional 75 ball bingo, 80 ball bingo and 30 ball bingo also known as ‘speed bingo.’ Unlike 75 ball bingo 90 ball bingo cannot use special card patterns. In British bingo halls players listen for 25 random numbers between 1 and 90. Once the card is filled players shout ‘bingo’ or ‘house.’ The caller announces each number using colorful phrases such as “Two fat ladies – 88″, “clickety click – 66″.

Online bingo has attracted many young players and Anni Nevison, 21, is typical. She plays two or three times a week and five hours on Sundays. Nevison told BBC reporters “I get excitement and friendship. You go into a bingo site and it’s like a little family, it’s so chatty.” Nevison said she would like to meet some of the people she talks to in the chat rooms at bingo sites. Bingo is inexpensive and cards can be had for as little as 1p. Most are around 10P and cards for high stakes games can cost more. Mark Griffiths, professor of gambling studies at Nottingham Trent University, says that bingo is part of the “feminization” of gambling. The industry is still growing and the future of online bingo in the UK seems assured.

Online Bingo Operators Advertising Offline

Online Bingo Operators Advertising Offline

Online Bingo Operators Advertising OfflineIn the UK people are bombarded with television ads for online bingo sites and a few popular shows are sponsored by major online bingo operators. In the UK bingo operators spend millions every year on marketing of various sorts creating many jobs in the process. Online advertising is inexpensive and bingo sites have made good use of internet marketing techniques. Some reports say that online bingo operators are increasingly making use of offline advertising to market their products and services. Most bingo sites have huge playerbases but out of all the names stored only a few thousand of these may play with any regularity.

In the current bingo business climate player retention is the key to success. In the past most online bingo operators focused most of their efforts on player acquisition. Keeping players engaged is one of the best ways for an online bingo site to remain profitable. Operators have finally realized that there are a finite number of people interested in pursuing online bingo as a hobby and most operators realize that it is best to target these players than to try to attract a random selection of people who may or may not become regular players. Because of the finite number of online bingo players some gaming experts believe the UK market has reached the saturation point. Currently there are over 400 online bingo sites competing for players.

To engage potential players many bingo operators are turning to offline advertising. At one time many sites relied on email ‘blasts’ to make their products known to players. As spam filters become more sophisticated bingo operators have largely abandoned spam as a method of advertising. Some sites are sending their playerbase snail mail containing special offers and bonuses. One major player, Foxy Bingo, has actually launched a bingo magazine and is sending it out to players. Reports say the magazine combined bingo related stories with a tabloid format. The magazine was so well received that another operator, Paddy Power, duplicated the effort.

Mecca, the UK’s largest bingo hall operator sells its bingo magazine at Mecca bingo halls for £1. All of the magazines carry the latest bonuses and promotions in addition to the bingo related stories. Judging by the large amount of work and effort put into these bingo publications it is clear that no operator is taking players for granted anymore.

Canadian Bingo is in Trouble

Canadian Bingo is in Trouble

Canadian Bingo is in TroubleThe UK has a lively thriving bingo scene. Bingo has been a staple in Great Britain since the postwar years. In the UK the 60′s and 70′s are considered the ‘golden age’ of bingo in the country and just about every village and remote hamlet had its own High Street bingo hall. Since Canada was a former British colony one would expect the country to have an active bingo industry. At one time bingo was a big business in Canada but this is no longer the case.

At one time players could visit Planet Bingo in Vancouver and find a game in progress. Planet Bingo is the largest bingo hall in North America and in better years the hall was always packed. A reporter from the Globe and Mail recently visited the hall during the daytime and described the hall as ‘quiet.’ At night and on weekends the games are well attended but most say that the heyday of bingo in British Columbia is now a memory. There are several reasons for the decline. A smoking ban cut attendance at games drastically. The same thing happened in the UK in 2007 when a national smoking ban was imposed. Some halls lost over 60% of their regular players and many online bingo sites reported an 80% increase in the number of registered players.

British bingo halls have managed to make a comeback by remodeling old fashioned bingo halls and adding services designed to appeal to young nonsmoking players. Canadian bingo halls, on the other hand, have not made the same efforts to adapt to current conditions. Bingo halls are also losing customers to casinos with thousands of slot machines. An aging and diminishing player base is also putting the pressure on Canadian bingo halls. Annual bingo revenues in British Columbia have declined from $175.3-million in 2007-08 to less than $100-million just four years later.

Planet Bingo is run by the Community Gaming Management Association, which distributes bingo receipts to 80 local charities that depend on bingo for funding. Rich Coleman, the minister responsible for gambling in British Columbia, stated “It’s not like it was. It’s more appreciated, if we’re honest with each other, as a social game.” The minister was blunt when he said of bingo  “[Bingo] has a kind of a future, but it’s certainly not a major product line.” The future of bingo in Canada is uncertain. In Canada bingo halls must partner with charities to hold games. Since attendance and revenues are dropping some charities may have to seek government grants and other funding sources.

Canadian bingo hall operators may want to follow the lead of their British counterparts and add new technologies and modernize their halls to attract a younger group of players.

Re-Load Bonuses Explained

Re-Load Bonuses Explained

reload bonusOnline bingo sites use a variety of bonuses, promotions, cash back schemes and other player perks to attract and retain players. In recent years online bingo operators have found that player retention is just as important as player acquisition. In recent years players have come to expect more from online bingo sites and thanks to intense competition bonuses have never been bigger. In today’s online bingo market offering a player a huge sign up bonus is not likely to produce a loyal player that will return time and time again. Online bingo sites need constant promotions to keep players happy and recently more bingo rooms are offering very generous re-load bonuses.

Exactly what is a re-load bonus? On this site we have discussed sign up bonuses and no deposit bonuses. A re-load bonus is for players that have already signed up and established an account. In the past many players would claim the welcome bonus, play it out and move on to the next bingo room. To counter this operators began offering re-load bonuses for each deposit made. When bingo sites offer re-load bonuses players receive a bonus with each deposit.

In most cases re-load bonuses are based on a percentage of the deposit. The percentage will depend on the bingo site and whether there are any special re-load bonus promotions running at the time of the deposit. Players can easily find re-load bonuses of 50% to 250% and up. Some sites set the maximum deposit amount eligible for the bonus at $100 to $500. Players should always watch for bonus specials. In most cases the site will inform registered players of any special bonuses via email. At some sites there are special re-load bonuses for VIPs and high rollers.

Since bingo sites are not in the business of giving away free money there will be terms and wagering requirements associated with any re-load bonuses. Rollover requirements are small at bingo sites compared with other gambling sites. A typical re-load bonus rollover requirement is usually 5X to 10X. That means the player will have to wager 5 to 10 times the size of the bonus before any winnings may be withdrawn. Today most bingo sites award reload bonuses with every deposit. Some sites will send players special bonus codes to unlock special bonuses.

Re-load bonuses help players increase their bankrolls and play more games. At most bingo sites players can use bonuses for side games but it is always a good idea to check the site’s policies. Re-load bonuses have been a very effective tool for building player loyalty.

Online Bingo Will Be Seventeen Years Old This Year !

Online Bingo Will Be Seventeen Years Old This Year !

This year online bingo will celebrate its seventeenth year on the net. The first bingo site was launched in 1996 and games were free. For the next few years most bingo sites offered free games and some operators started to add cash prizes. Back then authorities did not know how to handle the new online gambling industry. Some nations like Germany and the United States took a prohibitionist stance while others, most notable the UK, legalized, taxed and regulated online gambling.

Today online bingo is one of the largest and most profitable sectors of the UK online gaming industry. Many online bingo operators have added mobile applications which have attracted even more players. In 2005 the UK passed the gambling act and since then the nation has one of the largest regulated online gaming markets in the world. British players enjoy a set of consumer protections not available to players outside the UK. Today there are literally hundreds of bingo sites on the internet.

Players in the US enjoyed online bingo games until 2006 when right wingers in the Bush administration passed draconian anti online gambling legislation. The law was tacked onto a port security bill and introduced in a late night congressional session with no time for debate. In fact most in congress were unaware of the laws existence until it received widespread publicity. A survey of legislators showed that a large majority would have never voted for the legislation as a stand along bill.  Despite the laws Americans spend billions annually at offshore online gaming websites.

Online bingo has changed the face and demographics of the game. Today’s average bingo player is female, about 38 years old. Online bingo operators have been quick to adopt new technologies that improve the experience of players. In the beginning online bingo players had to download game software but today Flash technology has made game downloads obsolete. New gaming platforms have been created and game developers have been busy creating mobile applications for players.

As always, most players consider bingo as a social activity and in that respect online bingo is no different than live games at bingo halls. Chat rooms enable players to communicate and some British operators have held meet and greet events so online players could meet in person. There have even been a couple of marriages between players that met at an online bingo site. Online bingo has come a long way since the first site was launched seventeen years ago.

Four Things to Look For in a Bingo Site

In the UK online bingo is incredibly popular and over three million players log on to their favorite bingo site to play every week. In the UK bingo is regulated by the Bingo Act of 1996 which classified bingo as a recreational activity. The act subjects bingo to several laws designed to deal with the gambling aspect of bingo. Taxes are levied on all bingo sites licensed in the UK. This year the government imposed a ‘point of consumption’ tax to do away with the unfair tax advantages enjoyed by offshore bingo sites. Since there is so much competition in the online bingo industry operators are striving to provide players with the best online bingo experienced possible. For new players selecting a bingo site here are a few things to look for.

Obviously the games will be a prime consideration. Players should make sure the site offers high quality games as well as a variety of side games. A good bingo site will offer 90 and traditional 75 ball games. Many sites also offer 80 and 30 ball games known as ‘speed bingo.’ Sites with smaller selections will have a smaller player base and lower jackpots. In most cases the prize is determined by the number of players in the game.  The games should be professional with high quality graphics and animations. The site should offer a large selection of card prices. In most cases cards cost well under $1. Players should look for tournaments and the site should offer progressive jackpot games.

The bingo site should offer good bonuses and player rewards. In most cases online bingo sites offer players very lucrative welcome bonuses based on the size of the initial deposit. The site should also offer bonuses on every deposit. Some sites offer bonuses to those that refer friends to the site. Players should take advantage of every bonus offered.

The site should have at least one progressive jackpot game. Progressive jackpot games are exciting because the jackpots can be huge. Special chat games should be available and the site should have at least one weekly or monthly tournament.

Customer service is very important. The customer service department should be accessible 24/7. The site should offer the following contact options; email, fax, live chat and phone contact. Players should be able to take to a real person 24/7.In many cases bingo sites host their own forums and prospective players can learn about the experiences other players have had. The site should have the best software available and have a plan in place in case of a computer crash or disconnection.

The Importance of Bingo Software

The Importance of Bingo Software

Those that follow the online gaming industry know that online bingo is increasing in popularity. But what makes bingo and casino sites so popular and entertaining? The answer is the gaming software that powers the site. Since there may be hundreds of players online at once bingo sites need strong reliable software to keep players coming back for more. The entire site depends on the software. A random number generator is essential to keep all games random and fair. The invention of electronic random number generator enabled the development of the first video poker machines in the 1970’s and random number generators are still used today by gaming sites.

In most cases random number generators are regularly tested to ensure that all games are fair. The testing is usually done by the licensing authority. The generator powers all of the games including side games at online bingo sites. Players should always make sure that the random number generator is certified by a regulatory body. Most reputable bingo sites clearly pose the name and contact details for the regulatory body doing the testing. The software must be good enough to handle multiple players.

The speed of the software is critical to the operation of any online gambling website. Software developers create special algorithms to make sure that all games are quickly processed and that there are no slowups or freezes. Nothing is more annoying to players than software that freezes in the middle of a game. Faulty software could cause a site to lose players and operators have invested huge amounts of money to provide players with state of the art game software. The reputation of a bingo site is at stake if there are any programming errors.

There are several software providers that specialize in gaming software. Bingo sites that employ superior software will always have a good look and layout. All of the applications and features provided by a gaming site depend on the software used. Software that provides an easy and convenient gaming experience will enhance the player’s playing experience. Some bingo sites have their own proprietary software which enables the operator to offer players something unique and different. Networked bingo sites generally share the same gaming software and the games are the same throughout the network. Today, players no longer have to download any game software and most bingo sites use Flash or Java technology to power the games. Stiff competition in the online bingo industry has triggered many innovations and experts say this trend will continue well into the future.

Credit Card Promotion Angers MP’s

Credit Card Promotion Angers MP’s

Gambling experts around the world agree; using a credit card to gamble is not a good idea. Unfortunately at most online bingo sites and casinos players have few alternatives. In the United States, where using credit cards to gamble is illegal, players have found alternative methods of funding their accounts. In the UK some members of Parliament are outraged by a bank’s promotion encouraging them to gamble using their credit cards.

Several MP’s have called for top executives at Lloyd’s TBS to be fired after the well-known bank sent out letters to credit cardholders suggesting that customers borrow to gamble. The letters sent by Lloyds, told cardholders that they would be able to use “up to 50% of this [credit] limit for cash withdrawals and cash related transactions such as gambling, the purchase of foreign currency, money orders and gaming chips.” Several of the contacted cardholders have high credit limits. One recipient of the letter told reporters from the Daily Mail that he had been given a high credit limit despite the fact that he only earns £12,000 annually and the job is his first.

Last year a promotion by Barclaycard encouraging users to make cash withdrawals drew the ire of consumer groups. Cash advances have high interest rates and handling fees. Philip Hammond, Tory shadow chief secretary to the Treasury expressed his outrage and told reporters “It beggars belief that a bank so heavily reliant on public funds is promoting itself as a provider of credit for gambling habits. Taxpayers who are on the hook for a bailout worth billions of pounds will be horrified.” Hammond asked Lord Myner, Financial Services Secretary to caution Lloyds about any similar promotions in the future.

Liberal Democrat Vince Cable agreed with his conservative colleague that action should be taken against Lloyds. Cable stated “The senior management who signed this off need to be fired. It’s quite extraordinary that a publicly owned company is effectively encouraging borrowers to gamble on their credit cards. It is exactly the type of stupid, irresponsible behaviour that has to be stopped.” Cable also said the promotion was even more offensive given the fact that banks have spent so much time and money explaining why they cannot lend to consumers and businesses that have good and excellent credit scores.

Credit card debt is widespread in the UK. In 2008 the average client of the Consumer Credit Counselling Service owed about £7,000 on credit cards. Online bingo and casino players can avoid high interest rates associated with gambling transactions by using a third party payment service like PayPal.
